If your library has enabled SMS messaging, you can add or change the phone numbers that are used and what messages go to which phone numbers. The SMS Notice Preferences tab may display a country/region dialing code, phone number, phone type, and selections for each message type, depending on how your library has configured this page. This page allows you to opt in to receiving certain types of SMS messages that your library might send.
To change your personal information:
Log in to your user account.
Click the SMS
link (note that the name used may be different, depending on how your
library has configured it).
If you have phone numbers that have been enabled for SMS, they display
in a table.
For adding a new number,
click Add Phone Number and complete
the requested information. Depending on your library's settings, the following
fields or types of fields may display:
Country - Select the country
or region for this phone number from the Country drop-down list. If this
field or one like it displays, you must select an option from the list
before you can save the SMS settings.
Phone Number - Type a Phone
Number to use. You should only type the phone number that a friend would
use if they were in your same country or region. Therefore, do not include
any plus sign (+) or country-specific dialing code. Note:
You should only specify a phone number that can receive SMS text messages
(such as a cell phone). Also, keep in mind that you may be charged by
your cell phone carrier for any text messages you receive.
Type - Select the type of phone
number this is from the drop-down list.
Select the type of notices
you would like to receive at each phone number by selecting the appropriate
check box. You can use the check box in the Check
All column to select all the notice types in the row.
Pre-overdue Notices - Specifies
notices for items that are due soon. The library configures how far in
advance you would receive this notice.
Overdue Notices - Specifies notices for items that are overdue.
Hold Notices - Specifies notices for items you requested (placed
a hold for) that are now available to be picked up.
General Notices - Specifies general library announcements.
If you want to remove a phone number, click the trash can icon on the far right of the row.
Save
your changes.
The system updates your information and notifies you if there are any
problems.
When the library next sends out an SMS text message for one
of the types you selected, you should receive it at the specified number.
Note: The library may or may not
send out SMS messages for the type of message you select. Contact a library
representative for information about the types of messages they send out.
When you are finished, log out of your user account.
